Our History
Once upon a time in 2004, our neighbor Theresa, who lived across the street from Belmont United Methodist Church, was assisted by the church in meeting her food insecurity needs. This act of kindness made a tremendous difference in her life.
A few weeks after she began receiving assistance, she asked Pastor Jeff Mickle if Belmont UMC could help more neighbors. And thus, the Belmont Food Pantry was born, operating out of the storage closet at the bottom of the stairs with food donated by church members.
Over the past 20 years, Belmont has grown exponentially—evolving from that small closet serving food to a few neighbors in 2004 to a robust operation supporting over 700 families weekly in 2026, partnering with FeedMore, local grocery stores, and area churches, and utilizing a full complex of freezers, a large storage trailer, and a new walk-in cooler added in 2024.
Clothing distribution, launched in 2006, rounds out our services through The Closet at Belmont. Thanks to the unwavering spirit of service and generosity in our community, we continue to grow and serve our neighbors each year.
