The Belmont Pantry is supported by a small team of part time staff (Curtis and Ray) and more than 50 volunteers who sort donated foods, pack weekly bags, and serve all who come to the pantry every Friday (nearly 1,600 families each month). The food pantry is part of Central Virginia’s Food Bank (Feed More) network and receives annual in-kind food donations from local groceries valued at $300,000 annually. The Pantry is funded by Belmont UMC members, partner churches, UMC Conference and District mission funds, as well as small grants and MANY in-kind donations. We also receive set-aside produce, deli, meat, bread, and sweets by Kroger, Fresh Market, Walmart, and Food Lion. However much food doesn’t get donated, we purchase from FeedMore at a discounted price so we can continue to feed families.
How you can help
The Pantry is able to operate mostly off of generous donations and and a wonderful team of volunteers. If you are able and willing to donate, make sure to follow our Donation List to make the best impact. For prospective volunteers, there are many positions needed on Thursdays and Fridays that you can see below, including drivers of at least 25 years of age for daily food pickups, and Spanish speaking volunteers for Fridays.
